Camping with kids is quite different, don’t expect to read in your hammock much, but it brings a whole other side of enjoying the outdoors when you experience it with your child. The nonprofit Hike It Baby gives great advice on camping with kids.

Camping can be in a tight canyon, surrounded by a forest — or one of my favorites — out in the wide open. The desert is great for seeing stars, and many places in the Southwest are well removed from cities, so you don’t get that city-light glow. Check out A Kids Guide to Stargazing.
