A Surprise Around the Bend

Mama wakes me up early. It’s our special day and we’re off to the mountains!

tug on my boots.

Sunlight filters through the trees. The bright green grass is wet with dew, droplets cling to my legs as we walk through it.

I turn a corner on the trail… just ahead are two tiny fox cubs!

It’s a blur of black and orange as they tumble around, the bright white tips of their tails looping behind them. Fuzzy bodies fly through the air. They pounce on each other and climb on top of their mother.

Mama tells me how they stay close to her, learning and growing, but before long will be out on their own.

“Are they here to celebrate Mother’s day too?”

Mama smiles down at me and hugs me close. The moment feels magical. I know Mama feels it too.
